The comprehensive utilization and upgrade project for sulfur slag, with an annual capacity of 80,000 tons of sodium hydrosulfite, has successfully completed construction and passed acceptance inspection.
On December 30, the sulfur slag comprehensive utilization and 80,000-ton-per-year sodium hydrosulfite upgrading and renovation project—designed by the Institute of Chemical Engineering—successfully completed its construction and acceptance inspection. This project is a key initiative to actively respond to the nation’s “Great Protection of the Yangtze River” strategy and implement the task of “shutting down, upgrading, relocating, or transforming” chemical enterprises within one kilometer along the river. Through technological upgrades, the project has been developed into a modern chemical demonstration project that is green, safe, low-carbon, intelligent, and sustainable.

The 80,000-ton-per-year upgraded and renovated sodium hydrosulfite project for the comprehensive utilization of sulfur slag by Hubei Yihua Fine Chemical Co., Ltd. has successfully completed construction and passed acceptance inspection.

This project is located in the Tianjiahe area of the Yaojiagang Chemical Industrial Park in Yichang City, Hubei Province. It has a total construction area of 33,140.81 square meters and comprises 33 major items (including one integrated facility), of which 29 are individual buildings. At the heart of this project is the adoption of advanced, mature, and reliable domestic process technologies to thoroughly upgrade the existing production system, enabling the high-value resource utilization of sulfur slag and ultimately achieving an annual production capacity of 80,000 tons of sodium hydrosulfite (sodium dithionite). This initiative not only meets the company’s own development needs but also represents a concrete step toward practicing ecological civilization and promoting high-quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.

During the design phase, the project team closely adhered to the overarching principles of “green, safe, low-carbon, and smart,” deeply integrating the concept of “comprehensive Yangtze River protection” into engineering practice. Through comprehensive optimization across the entire process—starting from source reduction, process control, and end-of-pipe treatment—the project has established an efficient resource recycling system, significantly improving raw material utilization and substantially reducing emissions of the “three wastes.” This not only addresses potential environmental risks but also enhances process sophistication and production efficiency. Meanwhile, the project fully adopts automated and intelligent control solutions and strictly complies with the highest safety design standards, ensuring that the production process is inherently safe, environmentally sound, and highly efficient in operation.
The successful completion of this project marks another significant achievement for our company in serving national major strategies and promoting the green, low-carbon transformation of the chemical industry. Moving forward, our institute will continue to leverage our core strengths in chemical engineering design and technological innovation to provide comprehensive, lifecycle-spanning green engineering solutions to an increasing number of enterprises. We will thus contribute our professional expertise to the deepened implementation of the Yangtze River Conservation Strategy and help build a beautiful China and achieve high-quality, sustainable development in the chemical industry.
